Teaching as a Career in Jammu and Kashmir

A teacher's profession has always been considered as the noblest that you can take up. Teachers since time immemorial are held with great respect. Despite average salary, teaching profession attracts youth from all sections of society. The popularity of teaching courses is evident from growing number of educational institutes in Jammu and Kashmir. There are various universities that promote excellence in the field of teachers' education. As a teacher, you need to have a Bachelors in Education (B.Ed) degree.

Colleges across the Jammu and Kashmir offer Bachelors in Education (B.Ed) degree. At post graduate level that is at Masters in Education (M.Ed) level you can do specialization. For Nursery and pre school teaching, along with a  graduate degree, a diploma or Certificate in Pre-school teacher education programme of a duration of not less than one year, or B.Ed is required. Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) or Diploma of Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.)  is mandatory for teaching at the primary level.

To become a teacher in the College and university level in Jammu and Kashmir, one does not have to undergo any formal teacher training but have to qualify for National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET). Qualifying the NET / SET make candidates eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor, Lecturer etc.
