Formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Srinagar, the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar (NITSRI), is a public engineering and research institution and one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) directly under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It was established in 1960 and upgraded as the National Institute of Technology in 2003 and was declared as an Institute of National Importance in 2007.
The Institute is situated at the the banks of world-famous Dal Lake, with the far-famed Hazratbal Shrine on other side of the campus. Besides running the B.Tech Programmes the Institute also offers M.Tech programme in many streams. In addition to that a large number of students are also registered for MSc, M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes etc.
